Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) is a predominantly pro-inflammatory, pleiotropic cytokine and has been reported to play an important role in the pathogenesis and progression of various cancers through the stimulation of vital tumorogenic processes including malignant cellular proliferation; invasion, angiogenesis, induction of endothelial cell proliferation and modulation of the expression of various pro-angiogenic factors (Leek et al., 1998) besides other tumor promoting processes. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and cancer.
