MYC and plasma cell myeloma: Gene expression studies on the role of c-myc in multiple myeloma indicated that c-myc could be detected in approximately 70% of primary myeloma clones in contrast to cells from the premalignant condition, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance [33]; c-myc has also been shown to be important for the survival of MM cell lines because the downregulation of c-myc by RNA interference induces apoptosis in some myeloma cell lines [34–36].
