Cav1 and Cav2 channels are important in the regulation of membrane excitability, and are extensively spliced, but there are no studies that show any clear association between L-type (Cav1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4) or P/Q-type (Cav2.1) calcium channels and nociception, other than an association of Cav1 with familial hemiplegic migraine [63]. This evidence concerns the gene CAV1 and familial hemiplegic migraine.
