Our in vivo data presented here are well in line with our previous murine infection studies applying a different gram-negative bacterial species, namely Arcobacter butzleri sharing taxonomic relationship with C. jejuni. As for C. jejuni [17], IL-18, but also IL-22 were up-regulated in the large intestines of A. butzleri infected mice [36, 37]. Here, IL18 is linked to infection.
