When histological classification was taken in consideration (Fig 2D, Table 4), the number of total S100A9+ macrophages was higher in NASH (median: 15.00 [13.00, 15.00]) in comparison with NAFL biopsies (median: 7.00 [7.00, 10.50], p<0.02). This evidence concerns the gene S100A9 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
