GFAP and diabetic retinopathy: [46, 47] Overexpression of GFAP and vimentin occurs during Müller cell gliosis, which is known to be increased in diabetic retinopathy or STZ induced diabetic retinopathy [39, 46, 48] The results in the present study confirmed the increased retinal gliosis in the Diabetic group, (Fig 5) as both vimentin and GFAP expression was found to be increased in in the Diabetic groups compared to Healthy groups.
