GSTM1 and malaria: Previous African safety studies have shown that heterozygous and hemizygous/homozygous malaria patients treated with higher single PQ doses (i.e., 0.4 and 0.75 mg/kg), in addition to standard ACT, were associated with statistically significant reductions in Hb on day 7, but without life threatening incidents [21, 22], whereas treatment with a lower single PQ dose, (i.e., 0.1 mg/kg) and AL alone did not result in a significant Hb reduction [22].
