Future in vivo studies might provide physiological importance of our findings however, this ex vivo study on RASMC cultures establishes an important link between PA-induced transactivation of EGFR and formation of NOX-mediated ROS production providing a possible molecular mechanism of cellular pathology of peroxisomal dysfunction in cases of Refsum disease and PA-related carcinogenesis. This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and Refsum disease.
