They found that HCV down-regulates CIDEB by inducing CIDEB protein degradation, most likely through proteolytic cleavage, and further demonstrated that knockout of CIDEB in Huh7.5 cells reduces TGs secretion and VLDL lipidation and stabilizes cytoplasmic LDs in a manner similar to HCV infection, which may contributes to hepatic steatosis in the setting of HCV infection41.
