Increased physical activity levels have been shown to attenuate the effect of FTO variant on obesity traits in several populations [9, 17, 28]; however, FTO-diet interactions have shown conflicting results, where some studies found that high energy and fat intakes or low carbohydrate intake might strengthen the association of FTO variants with obesity [30, 31], while others failed to confirm such interactions [14]. The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
