TLR7 is intracellularly expressed on the surface of airway epithelia and airway smooth muscle as well as innate immune cells (such as macrophages, natural killer cells, and dendritic cells) [26, 27] and plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and in the regulation of antiviral immune responses [28]. Here, TLR7 is linked to systemic lupus erythematosus.
