Autoradiography found no changes in neurokinin 1 receptor density in the putamen,150 anterior cingulate cortex151 and temporal cortex.143 There was, however, an increase in receptor density in the caudate150 and nucleus accumbens.150 Immunohistochemical analysis found similar increases in substance P receptor in the prefrontal cortex in schizophrenia,152 but not in the amygdala.153 This lack of change in the amygdala cell density expressing substance P receptor was consistent with mRNA expression.153. The gene discussed is TACR1; the disease is schizophrenia.
