The proportions of individuals with fever, clinical malaria (a positive RDT in combination with temperature ≥37.5 °C), parasites detected by PCR, malaria-specific antibody responses (Fig. 2) and anaemia (Hb <11 g/gL) were all negatively associated with increasing altitude (Table 1; p < 0.001 for all comparisons). The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is malaria.
