Drusen deposition between retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and Bruch’s membrane (BM) is one of the key features in AMD patients (Mullins et al., 2000; Hageman et al., 2001) similar to Aβ/tau aggregates in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
