Various vitreoretinal diseases such as choroidal neovascularization due to exudative age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, and macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion are treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) such as ranibizumab (Lucentis®) and bevacizumab (Avastin®).
