The predominant pathways involved in HCC pathogenesis include pathways regulating growth factor signaling such as the insulin-like growth factor (IGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), PDGF, fibroblast growth factor (FGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF/MET); pathways related to cell differentiation such as the WNT, Hedgehog, and Notch pathways; and pathways related to angiogenesis such as the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and FGF pathways.
