While AC1 plays important role in pain-related LTP in the ACC in mice [33] confirmed by the analgesic effects of NB001 [12], an AC1inhibitor, and seems to reduce anxiety induced by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) [3], studies in AC8 KO mice and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located in the AC8 (ADCY8) gene in humans, restrict its involvement to mental disorders as depression and anxiety [16, 34].
