This member of the Bunyaviridae family is an interesting case as infection attenuates Akt signaling (Figure 1) resulting in dephosphorylation of 4EBP1 [71], the timing of which coincides with a significant degradation of 5′-TOP (terminal oligopyrimidine) mRNA and specifically requires 4EBP1 [111]. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is infection.
