Studies have shown that the dysregulation of many genes that are involved in glycolysis or oxidative phosphorylation, such as glucose transport protein 1 (GLUT1), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and isocitrate dehydrogenase 1/2 (IDH1/2), leads to a high risk of the occurrence of leukemia or other tumors [8–11]. The gene discussed is G6PD; the disease is leukemia.
