The only validated studies for leprosy subtype (whether PB, MB, or polarization) are provided by single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes for Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) in Ethiopia [52] and Malawi [53], TNF in India [54] and Thailand [55], mannose-binding lectin 2 (MBL2) in Brazil [56] and Nepal [57], mannose receptor C type 1 (MRC1) in Brazil and Vietnam [58], and MHC class I chain-related gene A (MICA) in China [59] and Brazil [60]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is leprosy.
