We previously demonstrated that serum levels of the soluble IL‐2 receptor (sIL‐2R), sICAM‐1 and Interleukin‐10 (IL‐10) are associated with poor prognosis in patients with melanoma.7, 8 Other serological markers have also been shown to be associated with the advanced stages of the disease, including MIA, tyrosinase, VEGF, IL‐6 and IL‐8.9 However, there are not yet consolidated serological biomarkers in clinical use to predict metastasis in AJCC stage I–II melanoma patients. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is melanoma.
