Among these genes, some single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) near MC4R (rs17782313, rs571312, rs17700144, and rs2331841) are strongly associated with obesity in adults, adolescents, and children, indicating that subjects with minor alleles of these SNPs typically exhibit higher BMIs than those with the major allele [3, 11–13]. This evidence concerns the gene MC4R and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
