The combination of high ANGPT1 levels and low VEGFA signalling in diabetic nephropathy is likely to represent an important mechanism that favours a more stable capillary wall, a phenomenon that we described as paralleled by a reduction in glomerular endothelial cell proliferation, as seen in the early stages of diabetic nephropathy [27], and a reduction in albumin excretion [24].
