EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma: In the present study, treatment with TKIs seems more effective in elderly than in young patients affected by advanced NSCLC with an EGFR gene mutation; PFS was significantly longer in elderly, but OS was comparable in the two groups, suggesting that treatment with TKIs influences tumor response and prolongs the duration of first-line therapy but does not affect long-term survival, probably as a consequence of second and third line treatment, that were more common in the youngest population.
