Regarding the two genes that were upregulated only in A7, GCLC (glutamate-cysteine ligase, catalytic subunit) and NFE2L1 (nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-like 1), high expression of GCLC, the rate-limiting enzyme in glutathione synthesis, was associated with lower intracellular ROS and cell proliferation in 36 melanoma cell lines and also with better 5-year overall survival in patients with melanoma. This evidence concerns the gene GCLC and melanoma.
