Several small studies have investigated changes in CDKN1C expression in human placenta cohorts with heterogeneous clinical characteristics (healthy pregnancies, preeclampsia, small for gestational age, and IUGR), with consistent up-regulation observed in IUGR suggesting that deregulation of this genes might play a role in prenatal growth (McMinn et al., 2006; Cordeiro et al., 2014). Here, CDKN1C is linked to fetal growth restriction.
