These findings are further corroborated by results from a study demonstrating gene variations in Drosha RNase and Digeorge syndrome critical region 8 (DGCR8), a known cofactor in miRNA processing, and AGO1, a component protein involved in the production of mature miRNAs, as being capable of significantly differentiating MDD patients and healthy controls in relation to genotype and allele frequencies (182). The gene discussed is DGCR8; the disease is major depressive disorder.
