In humans, two C9orf72 protein isoforms are generated from three alternatively spliced transcripts, a long form (C9-L) and a short form (C9-S), with multiple studies showing that the protein and mRNA level of the C9-L form are decreased in C9/ALS patients [5, 50, 52]. The gene discussed is C9orf72; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
