BRAF and melanoma: While the BRAFV600E mutation rate was lower than that reported in previous mutation studies in melanoma [5, 23], BRAFV600K mutations were associated with chronic UV exposure and are more prevalent in geographical areas with the highest levels of UV radiation, including Australia and Texas where BRAFV600K mutations have been reported in 19% to 22.5% of total BRAF mutations, respectively [15, 19].
