The addition at the time of immunization of pertussis toxin (PTX)11, the major virulence factor of Bordetella pertussis, was empirically found to greatly improve the efficiency of EAE induction12, 13 and to facilitate other murine autoimmune disease models, such as experimental autoimmune myocarditis, experimental autoimmune uveitis and glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (GPI)-induced arthritis14, 15, 16. This evidence concerns the gene GPI and autoimmune uveitis.
