These studies coincide with work suggesting that ERα can stimulate GATA3 expression and drive FOXA1 co-expression, both of which oppose EMT [255], and work from our own lab showing that the transcription factor c-Myb, which mediates the pro-proliferative effects of oestrogen in breast cancer cells, has a reciprocal, inverse role on suppressing the EMT driver Zeb1, and is itself transcriptionally suppressed by Zeb1 [256]. The gene discussed is ESR1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
