Reduction of tonic inhibition was paralleled by a significant down-regulation of GABAA receptor subunit δ transcripts (Gabrd) and protein (GABRD) in peri-infarct tissue 7 days after stroke in mice [Gabrd ratio ipsi- vs. contralateral: 0.67 ± 0.06 (n = 4), p ≤ 0.001, and GABRD ipsi- vs. contralateral: 64.39 ± 5.93% (n = 4), p ≤ 0.05, Fig. 2A,B] as well as in rats [Gabrd ratio ipsi- vs. contralateral: 0.69 ± 0.10 (n = 6), p ≤ 0.01, and GABRD ipsi- vs. contralateral: 58.29 ± 5.01% (n = 5), p ≤ 0.05, Fig. 2A,B]. This evidence concerns the gene GABRD and stroke disorder.
