AML-associated chromosome translocation products, such as promyelocytic leukaemia (PML)/retinoic acid receptor α (RARα), promyelocytic leukaemia zinc finger protein (PLZF)/RARα, and AML-1/eight-twenty one protein (ETO), may block transport of VDR to the nucleus and reduce the capacity of AML cells to differentiate in response to 1,25D [12]. The gene discussed is PML; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
