AML-associated chromosome translocation products, such as promyelocytic leukaemia (PML)/retinoic acid receptor α (RARα), promyelocytic leukaemia zinc finger protein (PLZF)/RARα, and AML-1/eight-twenty one protein (ETO), may block transport of VDR to the nucleus and reduce the capacity of AML cells to differentiate in response to 1,25D [12]. This evidence concerns the gene RARA and acute myeloid leukemia.
