Several polymorphisms of genes encoding for enzymes acting in the remethylation pathway of hcy metabolism such as methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T have been shown to cause hyperhomocysteinemia (Hhcy) particularly in patients with deficiency of folate, vitamin B6 and B12 [6]. Here, MTHFR is linked to hyperhomocysteinemia.
