It is well known that high grade PCa lose their epithelial phenotype and show mesenchymal characteristics, such as expression of vimentin and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), loss of E-cadherin and increase in expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) (Christoforou et al. 2014). The gene discussed is HIF1A; the disease is posterior cortical atrophy.
