NES and viral infectious disease: βIII-tubulin levels were higher at 7 dpi compared to 3 dpi in both genotypes consistent with continued maturation of neurons; however, a significant decrease in βIII-tubulin was observed at 7 dpi in MV-infected explants, suggesting that the viral infection is detrimental to mature neurons, in addition to NSPCs (Nestin; Fig. 2a, e) and young neurons (DCX; Fig. 2b, f), in the hippocampus.
