ADH1B and alcohol dependence: In ALDH2*1/*2 individuals (people who carry one ALDH2*2 allele and one ALDH2*1 allele; i.e., who are heterozygous), one ADH1B*2 allele was associated with about one-sixth (OR = 0.17) and two ADH1B*2 alleles were associated with about one-eleventh (OR = 0.09) the risk of alcohol dependence compared with individuals with no ADH1B*2 alleles.
