Again, it is instructive that basic visual sensory processing differences have already been associated with two NMDA-related genes, DTNBP1 and NOS1, both implicated in schizophrenia risk.119, 120 Emerging evidence also implicates NMDA dysfunction in altered somatosensory responses in animal models of schizophrenia.121, 122 This convergence of evidence leads us to hypothesize that variation in genes implicated in glutamatergic function may very well influence both visual and somatosensory adaptation.
