INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: It is a genetically, metabolically and clinically heterogeneous type of noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and is diagnosed by the following criteria: (1) onset of diabetes ≤ age 25; (2) transmission of the disease for at least three continuous generations; (3) control of hyperglycemia for a minimum period of 5 years without usage of insulin and absence of ketonuria at any time [1].
