In the present study, we showed that increased ERK5 expression is associated with shorter overall survival in colon cancer patients, providing further insight into the clinical relevance of the MEK5/ERK5 signaling pathway, and adding to the current state-of-the-art, where increased phosphorylated MEK5 in colon tumors has been associated with poorer 5-year disease-free and overall survival rates [12].
