We have recently shown that UCP2 expression mediates resistance to Gemcitabine (2’,2’-difluoro-2’-deoxycytidine; GEM), which is used in combination with oxaliplatin as chemotherapeutic agents in HCC and that inhibition of UCP2 makes HCC cell lines susceptible to treatment with GEM [14]. The gene discussed is UCP2; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
