In subjects with NAFLD and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), i.e., in “Obese/Metabolic NAFLD”, liver fat is closely correlated with direct measures of insulin resistance such as the inability of insulin to suppress hepatic glucose production [61], and indirect measures such as fasting serum insulin and the product of fasting insulin and glucose (Homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance [HOMA-IR]) [62]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
