The ultimate aim of our study was to determine whether immunoproteasomes are important for resistance against infection with T. cruzi. Because MHC I-restricted CD8+ T cells have been described as important for protective immunity in both naïve and vaccinated mice, as estimated based on parasitemia and mouse survival, we expected that TKO mice would be more susceptible to infection than their WT counterparts. This evidence concerns the gene CD8A and infection.
