TF and diabetes mellitus: TF is known to contribute to the elevated thromboembolic risk of those patients.20–22 Inflammatory signals within the endothelium account for an increased expression of TF,4,23 which is also modulated on the post-transcriptional level.5,24,25 Likewise, the endothelial-enriched miR-126 was shown to correlate with diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease.12,26 Up to now, the role of miRs in the pathogenesis of increased thrombogenicity in diabetes mellitus remains unclear.
