Polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, M-protein and skin changes (POEMS) syndrome is a rare paraneoplastic disorder associated with an underlying plasma cell dyscrasia and multiorgan failure.1 The pathogenesis of POEMS syndrome is likely caused by overproduction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).2 POEMS syndrome is potentially fatal and adversely affects quality of life. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is endocrine system disorder.
