In a clinical study, Karlsson et al. [12] analyzed SelS mRNA expression in the subcutaneous adipose tissues of T2DM patients and healthy individuals matched for age and body weight and found that the SelS mRNA in the subcutaneous adipose tissues of T2DM patients was significantly increased after hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp experiments; in contrast, no significant change in expression was detected in the healthy control group. This evidence concerns the gene SELENOS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
