The proteins α-synuclein (aSyn), β-amyloid42 (Aβ42), DJ-1 (PARK-7) and total tau (t-tau) are involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, and have been proposed as biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for a number of disease conditions with several hallmarks, such as amyloid plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and Lewy bodies. This evidence concerns the gene PARK7 and neurodegenerative disease.
