In a recent animal study, reduction of BSH activity by antibiotic or tempol treatment of HFD-fed mice was shown to prevent NAFLD by modulating gut microbiota and altering metabolism of bile acids, with a notable increase of the FXR antagonist T-β-MCA, which inhibited FXR signaling in the intestine. Here, NR1H4 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
