Since the anti-apoptotic factor Bcl2 is well known to counteract cisplatin-induced apoptosis in cancer cells [24], its expression can be regulated by IRES-dependent translation [34], and because we observed a correlation between La and Bcl2 levels in HNSCC cells (Figure 1), we tested whether depletion of the La protein affects Bcl2 protein level.
