As has been shown in published results, we observed that NLRC4-/- mice were only moderately susceptible to infection, despite the well-recognized role of NLRC4 in inflammasome activation in response to L. pneumophila flagellin, and the high susceptibility of NLRC4-/- macrophages to L. pneumophila replication in vitro (Figs 1A and 4B, [55], [44]). Here, NLRC4 is linked to infection.
